Winning means a lot to staff.

Three years ago I wasn’t sure there was room for the WOBAs, especially when we already had the Oxfordshire Business Awards… or OBAs as they are known. Oh, how wrong I was, and what a great annual celebration of everything that’s good about doing business in West Oxfordshire the WOBAs have become – and in such a short space of time!

Having sponsored the Environmental Award in the first year, STL then won the Large Business Category in the second year, and we’re back to sponsoring again this year with the Employer of the Year Award. Personally I can’t wait to see how creative and innovative local firms and organisations can be when it comes to attracting and holding onto great staff. We’re bound to come across dozens of great ideas and I’m sure we’ll have a lot of fun doing so!

Something often overlooked is the awards evening itself, and regardless of whether we’re a sponsor or an entrant we are always keen to take a table. What better way of rewarding some of your hard working staff is there, than a great night out with likeminded people? When we won the contract for the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games I was thrilled to bits and I couldn’t understand why everyone at STL wasn’t quite as enthusiastic. Then in the same year we won Large Business of the year and everyone at STL was ecstatic… and then I got it. Winning the Olympics was just another job for everyone in our business, another contract to fulfil, but winning the WOBA was recognition in our own back yard, and that really meant something to the STL team.

So I’m a big fan, it’s a win, win, win as far as I’m concerned. We get to meet some of the best businesses in the region, we increase our profile and we have some fun… what’s not to like?

Best of luck, and I look forward to seeing you on the night… can’t wait!!
