Two art and design students from Abingdon & Witney College have come up with a unique trophy design that aims to ignite the passion in West Oxfordshire businesses who have until midnight on 30 November 2015 to submit their entry forms to be in with a chance of winning the prestigious trophy at the West Oxfordshire Business Awards 2016 (WOBAs).

Rebecca Law (19) and Charlie Moss (16) who are students at the Witney campus, burnt off stiff competition as students competed for the opportunity to add a commission to their CV before entering the world of work and to see their concepts become a reality.

The trophy will be made by Witney charity, Synolos, who have invited the students to spend work experience time in their studio throughout the production process.

Winning student, Rebecca Law, commented:

“I can’t believe I won! My trophy design was inspired by my love for campfires, to sympbolise a business growing as well as the burning ambition of business owners and employees. I’m really looking forward to spending time at Synolos and going to the WOBA Celebration Event in February where we will get to see our trophy unveiled!”

David Cameron launched WOBA 2016 in front of 150 businesses last month. The awards, now in their sixth year, have 11 categories with the winner of each category automatically entered into the STL Communications West Oxfordshire Business of the Year Award 2016.

Bill Smith, Finance Director for WOBA sponsor STL Communications and part of the WOBA trophy judging panel, commented:

“Although there were several really good trophy designs one stood out from the others and was the unanimous choice of the judges. The winning team had produced several drawings which gave different variants to the impressive model they had produced.”

West Oxfordshire businesses still have time to download an entry form from woba.org.uk and submit it ahead of the midnight deadline, Monday 30 November 2015.

Finalists will be announced 10 February 2016 with a glamorous Gala Dinner taking place Friday 18 March 2016.

This year’s WOBA charity is the Laurence Home Nursing Team of Chipping Norton.
